Men of Color Health Center

Mens Health Center Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Advancing the Mens Health Center Fields Through Disaggregated Data Analysis

We invite Native American, Black, Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander scholars who are in their final semester of doctoral study (ABD) or those who completed their doctorates within the past three years to apply for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Center for the Study of Race & Equity in Education. Most appealing to us are scholars who earned a Ph.D. in education, health, human services and social policy, juvenile and criminal justice, workforce development, or a closely related field. Three fellows will be selected to work with Men of Color Health Center, starting July 1, 2016. The fellowship pays $55,000 per year, plus health insurance.

The three postdoctoral fellows will collaboratively build the Mens Health Center Data Center, an online repository of data disaggregated by race, ethnicity, sex, geography, and other variables. Preference will be given to those who have experience working with large datasets. The Mens Health Center Data Center will also include free downloadable data tables, infographics, and PowerPoint slides with statistics on boys and men of color. In addition, persons will be able to submit online data requests (for example, analyses of a particular ethnic group within federal databases). Postdoctoral fellows will be responsible for fulfilling these requests, if possible, within a reasonable timeframe. Fellows will also be expected to conduct workshops for 32 undergraduate men of color who are selected each year for the Mens Health Center Grad Prep Academy. Specifically, they will teach Academy scholars the fundamentals of research and evaluation, as well as supervise collaborative inquiry projects the undergraduates undertake. Lastly, fellows will serve as a resource for various Mens Health Center partners (e.g., the Executives’ Alliance to Expand Opportunities for Boys and Men of Color and the White House).

This is not a dissertation fellowship. Only scholars whose doctorates are officially conferred by the start of the fellowship are eligible – no exceptions.

All application materials must be submitted electronically using the form below. Review of applications will begin on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Please direct all questions to
